Best known as Seth Cohen on television’s The O.C., Adam Brody has been pretty much laying low since the show went off the air in 2007 — until now. The actor, currently shooting A Couple of Dicks in New York City, stars in the indie feature Death in Love, in theaters now. Up next is the fall release of the horror feature Jennifer’s Body opposite Megan Fox.
Brody talked to Huffington Post reporter Zorianna Kit about life post- O.C. and working with some of the sexiest stars in Hollywood, including Fox and Angelina Jolie.
Zorianna Kit:Death in Love is about a dysfunctional family stemming from the mother being a Holocaust survivor. There are a lot of extreme sexual acts being depicted on screen. What made you want to be part of director Boaz Yakin’s project?
Adam Brody: When I read the script, it opened on the Holocaust where Jacqueline Bisset’s character was walking down a hallway of the experimental patient ward. I was sold on that.
Zorianna: But your part — a guy who works at a scam modeling agency — takes place in present time.
Adam: I like an interesting movie even if it’s controversial or offensive, depending on your taste. There are a lot of interesting ideas in there — symbolically and metaphorically. Some of it works, some of it is pretty pretentious, but what it isn’t is boring.
Maybe it’s the fact that he’s in one of the most intriguing dramas of the year, Death In Love. Or maybe it’s because he’s got the dark and sexy Jennifer’s Body with Megan Fox on the horizon for September. Most likely though, his state of inspiration is because he’s going through a series re-education musically.
“Music is a big part of my life so I try to take it with me in whatever I do. I’ve been on a real classic rock kick lately though,” laughs Brody.
That “classic rock” kick has inspired him to check out all kinds of stuff that was under his nose for years but he never delved into until now. Brody turned his iPod and gave ARTISTdirect.com an exclusive look at what’s rocking his world right now.
Check out his playlist below and don’t miss his incendiary performance in Death In Love out now.
Here’s a short, but neat audio interview with Adam. He talks about A Couple Of Dicks and reveals his character’s name!
ADAM BRODY (THE O.C., THANK YOU FOR SMOKING) is about to wrap shooting on the KEVIN SMITH comedy, A COUPLE OF DICKS. We caught up with BRODY a few days ago and he talked about his part in the film. Listen in below
Again… another new interview with Adam. Although a little short, it’s still great to read.
THE BIG SCREEN SCENE: Boaz Yakin’s “Death in Love” was greeted with downright hostility when it opened at the Sundance Festival. The drama, dealing with a woman who survived the Holocaust by having sex with a Nazi concentration camp doctor — and how her ruined psyche affected her now-grown sons — also garnered some raves, particularly for the performances of Josh Lucas, Lukas Haas, Jacqueline Bisset and Adam Brody. Now it’s going into limited release tomorrow (7/17).
“I love a good, interesting movie with good, interesting choices. I’d rather be in an interesting failure than a generic copy of a copy of a copy,” declares Brody. The one-time “The O.C.” actor tells us he had “no trepidations, not in the least” about getting involved in the upsetting, graphic film.
Here’s another fantastic interview with Adam! Total shame about both the Revenge Of The Nerds and Justice League films.
When Adam Brody left The OC two years ago, he was tipped as the cast member with the best shot at a film career — a title he still holds, even if it’s been a bumpier ride than he would have liked. Now, after two of his biggest projects were aborted — a Revenge of the Nerds remake, which was shut down as shooting began, and George Miller’s Justice League, where Brody’s hopes of playing The Flash were derailed by the writer’s strike — the 29-year-old is set to return to theaters with the Diablo Cody-scripted Jennifer’s Body and the Boaz Yakin-directed indie Death in Love, which opens this week. We sat down with Brody to talk about all four films.Death in Love really grapples with Jewish issues so explicitly, and how the fallout from the Holocaust continues to reverberate generations later. What was that like for you as the cast’s only Jew — even though you’re playing the only character in the movie who isn’t a Jew?
You know, it is unlike most Holocaust movies in that there’s less emphasis on right or wrong. There’s more emphasis on the human psyche and pleasure and pain. So it was definitely less of a finger-pointing angle and more inward-looking. In terms of my views, I don’t carry too much of that with me. I carry a decent amount, but I wasn’t brought up in a terribly religious household, so I wasn’t too conflicted.
Your character is kind of the levity in the film — while Josh Lucas and Jacqueline Bisset have all this emotional heavy lifting to do, you play this smoothie modeling agent that works with Josh’s character. What made you want to take on that role?
For starters, just reading it, it’s got intelligence, and even from the first page it’s apparent that it’s something pretty original and specific and well-done. In terms of my character, I got off easy emotionally, so it wasn’t too physically taxing on me either.
Be prepared, this is one of the many interviews that will be posted today!
For several sun- and drama-drenched seasons on Josh Schwartz’s prime-time soap The O.C., Adam Brody’s portrayal of the neurotic comic-book nerd Seth Cohen gave hope to nonjocks everywhere—proof positive that geeks could, in fact, get the girl. We’re now a few years removed from that sultry West Coast class war, and in his latest film, Death in Love, the 29-year-old actor plays a darker character—one more at ease with himself, but also with more questionable motivations. Brody, a sometime indie-rock drummer in the band Big Japan, is currently hanging out in our town (and pissing off Greenpoint denizens), shooting the forthcoming Kevin Smith film, A Couple of Dicks.
At the heart of Death in Love is a romance between a young Jewish girl and a Nazi doctor. Hardly an ideal match.
No. And I mean, even that splinters in so many ways. I guess that’s the main story line. But then it goes into the family so much, and everyone is kind of falling in love in their own way.
Is the lesson in this film that Nazis feel love too?
Well, I’m sure Nazis can feel love. We’re all human at some point. Or an animal. The movie is so much about the difference between pleasure and pain, masochism and all that stuff. So it’s all about where that line is.
Josh Lucas’s character is really scarred from his mom’s forbidden love. What’s the least cool trait you’ve inherited from your parents?
The least cool thing? Good question. Well, let’s see. I didn’t get diabetes yet, so that’s cool. Oh, we’re not good at basketball. That was a disappointment, especially when I was younger. I’ve come to terms with it. I could’ve used some more hops. That would’ve been nice.
Unfortunately, Adam is not in this trailer, however it’s worth viewing! Here’s the greenband trailer for the film, a little different and featuring more of Amanda Seyfried.
JENNIFER’S BODY stars Megan Fox (TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN), Adam Brody (THE O.C.) and Amanda Seyfried (BIG LOVE, VERONICA MARS) in a tale of a possessed cheerleader with a habit for bumping off High School boys. Fueled by Ramen is providing the soundtrack, which features original songs by PANIC AT THE DISCO, ALL TIME LOW, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL, COBRA STARSHIP, and more. Additionally, BOOM! STUDIOS will release an original graphic novel based on the film, which can be pre-ordered here.
I have also added the new one sheet poster to the film and replaced some old candids with HQs donated by the super awesome Jen!
First off, thanks to all the comments about the new layout! It was greatly appreciated. Secondly, the official Red Band trailer for Jennifer’s Body has been released! You can watch it below! Remember you must be over 17 to view it. Caps from it will be added soon. Enjoy!
Got around to adding screencaps! I’ll try and add HQ ones soon. Enjoy for now.
Quick update to say that we now have a new layout here at Adam Brody Online thanks to the amazing Flor of Sweet Revelation! After a year of the old one, I think it was time to have a new look for the site especially since we hit our 3 year anniversary two months ago! Hope you guys like it!
Also, I will be converting the site full over to wordpress, so the pages (aside from the gallery) don’t work right now. Everything should be done in a few days.
